Habitual Poetry Day 3 (4)
Hiding in the Spotlight
On a darkened empty stage
She sets up her mic
An acoustic guitar
Beneath a single spot light
Ignoring the shuffles and the whispers below
She tunes up her secondhand strings
She closes her eyes and lets herself go
And in a soft, low voice she starts to sing
There's a secret in her heart, that the world will never know
With delicately calloused fingers she strums the chords of her soul
She lights up the stage with the music that flows
Her hair down in her face.. world fades with a crescendo
Smoke drifting in the rafters like the music that she plays
She no longer hears his laughter, but she still can see his face
A love meant for forever, one that noone could replace
So she sings her heart a lullaby for the man that she betrayed
Her voice rings out distinctly, hiding the crack within her heart
Her face is a sweet sly smile, hiding a world falling apart
With a life that has been shattered, and she's picking at the shards
Alone upon an empty stage, just a girl and her guitar
