"Pocket Change" Written by Caleb Hendricks

For the charity event "Poetry For Change" on 12-21-12 for The South Plains Food Bank

Pocket Change

A dollar and some change
Not even enough for a bus
Oh what gracious luck
A few measly coins and a buck
I could buy myself a candy bar
Some crackers or a coke
But I already have some coffee
And I think the vending machine's broke
I could save my money and do nothing
Do nothing....
..... Nothings never fun
Or end up with nothing
Spent on nothing
With nothing leftover to gain...
But to some.. a dollar and some change
Is something...
Its all out ballzout cold
That dude must be like 70 yrs old
And in my hand the change I hold
Could be a cup of hot cocoa
Or it could simply be a loaf of bread
Brought home to feed four yapping heads
For a single mother who's husband's fled
A dollar and some change
You have within your reach
A simple chance to make a stand
And practice what you preach
A dollar and some change
Do with it what you like
Just remember
In the month of December
That change
Could change someones life
